Georgia and the World Championships beckons for nine of Munster’s brightest talents, as they were announced in the Irish U-20 squad taking part in this summer’s tournament.
The tournament takes place from May 31 to June 18, with Ireland playing their Pool games in Kutaisi, before moving to Tbilisi for the knock-out stages.
There are some new faces in the squad, with Garryowen’s David McCarthy and Young Munster fly-half Alan Tynan joining Jordan Duggan, Angus Curtis, Michael Sylvester in the squad of 28.
There’s no shortage of experience among the Munster ranks, with Shannon’s John Foley, Young Munster’s Calvin Nash and Bantry native Fineen Wycherley making their senior debuts for the province this year, while Gavin Coombes, McCarthy, Jack Stafford and Tynan all played a part in Munster ‘A’ winning the British & Irish Cup this year.
Bill Johnston misses out due to injury.
Ireland open their campaign against Italy on Wednesday, May 31. They then meet Scotland on Sunday, June 4, and their final Pool B game is against New Zealand, who they defeated for the first time in last year’s Championship, on Thursday, June 8.
